Many believers around the world are wondering if the current events in the middle east have anything to do with the prophecy in Ezekiel 38-39. There are numerous opinions flooding the Internet about these events. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but in my opinion, some of these are missing the main point and are even bordering on wild speculation instead of staying with the Word of God. Some of these posts on social media are not correctly looking at the overall picture of what God’s Word teaches about Bible prophecy.
On this website, under the “Bible Prophecy and Current Events” video category, you can find over a dozen videos on “God’s Plan for the Ages.” The seventh full length video covers what I call, “The Coming War in the Middle East.” In this article I want to give a very brief overview of Ezekiel 38-39 and give my thoughts on what we are seen as of March 2026.
I believe that God’s Word teaches that three of the next major prophetic events are: The Covenant of the Anti-christ, The Catching Up of the Church (the Rapture) and the Coming War in the Middle East. The prophecy in Ezekiel 38-39 can be divided into three main truths: The Invasion (38:1-17), The Destruction (38:18-39:20) and, The Restoration (39:20-29).
First, The Invasion:
Ezekiel’s prophecy states that when this war, this invasion, takes place, Israel will be living in a time of peace. Anyone who keeps up with the news and with history at all knows that modern day Israel has not been at peace since it became a nation again in 1948. Ezekiel goes on to prophesy that God will put it in the heart of a certain leader to plan the invasion of Israel. Several nations will come together for this invasion. Again, this is a relatively brief overview, but I believe these nations will be Russia, Iran, Turkey and several African and Asian Islamic nations. As far as the timing of this invasion, Ezekiel writes that it will take place in the “latter days” and that it will take seven years to properly dispose of the weapons of this invasion. Therefore, many Bible prophecy teachers believe this invasion will take place just before or just after the beginning of the Great Tribulation.
Secondly, The Destruction:
The nations of the world will realize that Israel will not have a chance to survive this attack. The Bible shows that not one single nation will come to the aid of Israel. (38:13) God will set the trap for this invading leader and these armies. God Himself will also destroy these armies on the mountains of Israel. Why will God do this? And, why is God going to show so much wrath toward these particular nations? What are God’s purposes for these events that ARE GOING TO HAPPEN? You need to understand that, simply put, a “prophecy is a promise you will see.” God says He is going to do these things and we need to take Him at His Word. In the next article, we will look further at this passage; a passage that may come to pass in the near future.
