The Only Way to Heaven pt. 2

In the previous article we saw that Jesus said to Nicodemus that if anyone is going to see the Kingdom of God, in other words, if they are going to enter into Heaven, he or she must be born again. This is because of our Greatest Problem–sin. Jesus emphasized to Nicodemus that this is the very truth of God. There are no exceptions, there is no other way. Jesus didn’t say,”You must be baptized” or “You must be a good person and a member of a church.” These are all important things, but they have nothing to do with a person being born again.
Jesus made it clear to Nicodemus that being born again is a work of the Holy Spirit. Only the Holy Spirit of God can make someone a brand new person. At this point, Nicodemus asked Jesus, “How can this be?” Jesus wanted Nicodemus to know that there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. Jesus explained to Nicodemus that being born again and receiving God’s gift of eternal life is all because of the Greatest Love and the Greatest Gift. God doesn’t just love us, He “so” loves us. God’s love for you is the greatest love you can ever know. His love for you is an unconditional love. He loves you so much that He doesn’t want to spend eternity without you. God demonstrated His love toward us that even when we were lost in our sin and separated from Him, Jesus died for us on the cross. The penalty that Jesus paid and the punishment that He endured should have been ours. Jesus never sinned, but He took our sins as if they were His own and He took our place on the cross. This is the greatest love.
And, the Greatest Gift? It is Jesus Himself. He is Eternal Life. When we receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord we are receiving Eternal Life. In the next article we will see how Jesus wrapped up this all important conversation with Nicodemus.
